For the first time this season, Scottsdale Christian Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Scottsdale Christian Academy Eagles face off against Fountain Hills Falcons at 3:45 p.m. They and Fountain Hills are at an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long.
Things were looking good for Scottsdale Christian Academy after they put the first points on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Northwest Christian by a score of 5-4. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Crusaders: they've now lost six in a row.
Owen Kendrick put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Kendrick was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Luke Troxell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. Trevor Green also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Fountain Hills got the win against Camp Verde on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-5. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Like Scottsdale Christian Academy, Fountain Hills also got a great game from a two-way player: JJ Pena. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pena has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Griffin Bos was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Cooper Loyet was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Fountain Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Fountain Hills' win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Scottsdale Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Scottsdale Christian Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Fountain Hills struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Scottsdale Christian Academy came up short against Fountain Hills in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Scottsdale Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
