Baseball Recap: Walters Starts off Right with Win over Empire

Walters had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Empire Bulldogs on Monday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Blue Devils also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

JOHN JONES made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. JONES was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MAVERICK COOKE, who scored two runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was CASH THOMAS, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Walters always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Empire's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walters will take on Cyril at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Empire, they will challenge Bray-Doyle at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
