Two dominant guards in Ja'Caiden Cone and Martez Ford are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Statesboro Blue Devils just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Greenbrier Wolfpack at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Statesboro is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
On Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Statesboro beat Effingham County 46-41. The 46-point effort marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Cone continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 14 points. What's more, he also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Camdyn Wilkerson, who posted 11 points and six rebounds.
Statesboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier strolled past Effingham County with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 54-38. The Wolfpack have beaten the Rebels the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.
Statesboro better focus on containing Nate Garstang and Ford as the pair were huge in Greenbrier's win. Garstang had 18 points, while Ford put up 13 points. Jackson Mcdonald was another key player, scoring six points.
Greenbrier's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Statesboro, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Statesboro hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 60.6 points per game. However, it's not like Greenbrier struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Statesboro strolled past Greenbrier when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 67-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Statesboro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
