Baseball Game Preview: Williston-Elko Blue Devils vs. Horse Creek Academy Stallions

The Williston-Elko Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Horse Creek Academy Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Williston-Elko is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Wagener-Salley just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the War Eagles.

Meanwhile, Horse Creek Academy made easy work of Ridge Spring-Monetta on Friday and carried off a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Stallions, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Bryce Gunter made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Connor Kanagy was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Horse Creek Academy is 7-2 when Kanagy posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Cameron English was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Horse Creek Academy and bumps their season record up to 9-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Williston-Elko, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 9-7.
