After a string of four wins, Perkiomen Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pope John Paul II. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 10-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Michael Strechay was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Aidan Autovino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Perkiomen Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Pope John Paul II, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.

Perkiomen Valley and Pope John Paul II should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Vikings (ranked 69th) will meet Upper Perkiomen (ranked 218th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Pope John Paul II will take on Cardinal O'Hara at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (25 vs. 144).
