Basketball Recap: Centennial Takes a Loss

Centennial managed to slip by Hawthorne the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Centennial Apaches were beaten by the Hawthorne Cougars 83-47 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Apaches have suffered against the Cougars since April 28, 2021.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alfredo Ramirez, who posted 23 points. That's the most points Ramirez has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Kordae Edwards, who scored 17 points.

Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Hawthorne, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 7-8.

Centennial and Hawthorne could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Centennial will take on Beverly Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday down 787 places (1122 vs. 335). Similarly, Hawthorne (ranked 609th) will meet Leuzinger (ranked 74th) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
