Basketball Recap: Laurel Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Laurel came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Bladensburg Mustangs with a sharp 87-61 win. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 23 points or more this season.

Laurel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christian Brown led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Taylor, who posted 21 points and four steals.

Laurel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Laurel is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for Bladensburg, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-12-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel will challenge Severna Park at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bladensburg, they will take on Bowie at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
