Basketball Game Preview: Victory Christian Vikings vs. Forest Lake Christian Falcons

The Victory Christian Vikings will challenge the Forest Lake Christian Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Victory Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.9 points per game this season.

Victory Christian took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning, posting a 63-18 victory. While the Vikings didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Victory Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniel Kapelkin led the charge by putting up 21 points. Another player making a difference was Gilbert Rutsch, who posted 16 points.

Meanwhile, Forest Lake Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Foresthill an easy 75-49 win. The Falcons were down 63-40 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Forest Lake Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brendan Hooper went 10 of 25 on his way to 25 points and three steals. That was a full 51% of Forest Lake Christian's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Fenton, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Victory Christian's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Forest Lake Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Victory Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Forest Lake Christian when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 56-43. Does Victory Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Forest Lake Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
