Softball Recap: Columbia Central Beats Lincoln County for Their Third Straight Victory

Columbia Central proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 11) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lincoln County Falcons, sneaking past 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Bailey Lovell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Lovell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Molly Underwood was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabby Bolton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Columbia Central pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln County, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 10-6-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia Central will venture away from home to face off against Stratford at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lincoln County, they will head out to take on Riverdale at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
