Baseball Recap: Lake View Chiefs/Maidens vs. Sweetwater Mustangs
Lake View had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-9 to make it seven. They fell 7-3 to the Sweetwater Mustangs. The Chiefs/Maidens were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 3-2.
As for Sweetwater, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-4 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Sweetwater's part, Braxton Bartee made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Bartee was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Mason Straley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Bewley, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Lake View will square off against Ozona at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sweetwater, they will challenge Clyde at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
