Preview: Northeast Academy Eagles vs. Albemarle School Colts
Northeast Academy is on a three-game streak of home losses, Albemarle School an 11-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The two teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Northeast Academy is ranked 672nd, while Albemarle School is ranked 684th).
Even though Northeast Academy has not done well against Albemarle School recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Northeast Academy took down Albemarle School 47-31. The victory was just what Northeast Academy needed coming off of a 65-16 loss in their prior contest.
Northeast Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaden Medford out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Medford has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Parks, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Northeast Academy's win ended a 17-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-12. As for Albemarle School, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Northeast Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Albemarle School, though, as they've been averaging only 21.9 rebounds per game. Given Northeast Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Albemarle School will need to find a way to close that gap.
Northeast Academy strolled past Albemarle School in their previous meeting on Wednesday by a score of 47-31. Will Northeast Academy repeat their success, or does Albemarle School have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
