Preview: Portage Mustangs vs. United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United]
Portage has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Portage will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Last Friday, Portage got themselves on the board against Homer-Center, but Homer-Center never followed suit. They breezed by the Wildcats at home to the tune of 34-0. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Portage had established a 28 point advantage.
Issac Willinsky continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 193 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Willinsky's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards. Another player making a difference was Connor Binaut, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They blew past Purchase Line 46-0 on the road.
Isaac Worthington went supernova for United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United], rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, while also throwing for 136 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes. Braydon Brown did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 102 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Portage to 3-4 and United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] to 7-0.
Portage came up short against United Valley co-op [Blacklick Valley/United] when the teams last played back in September of 2022, falling 24-14. Can Portage avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
