Baseball Game Preview: Erie Tigers vs. Ralston Valley Mustangs

The Erie Tigers will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Ralston Valley Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Saturday, Erie didn't have quite enough to beat West Albany and fell 9-8. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Erie got a good showing from Jeremiah Flaum, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Flaum a new career-low in walks (one).

At the plate, Ronin Ward made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kodie Shafter, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Ralston Valley came up short against Paradise Honors on Saturday and fell 6-1.

Jake Watts was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Ralston Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Hays, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. Mason Gilbreth also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Erie's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Ralston Valley, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
