Baseball Recap: St. Joseph's Prep Comes Up Short

St. Joseph's Prep fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against William Penn Charter on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Quakers by a score of 4-3. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Quakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Kieran Lodewick was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because St. Joseph's Prep is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Tommy Murtha was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

St. Joseph's Prep now has a losing record of 9-10. As for William Penn Charter, their victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-8.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph's Prep will be playing at home against Cardinal O'Hara at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a five-game losing streak. William Penn Charter has already played their next match (against Episcopal Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
