Basketball Game Preview: Hiawatha Red Hawks vs. St. Marys Bears

The Hiawatha Red Hawks will square off against the St. Marys Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

St. Marys will be up against a hot Hiawatha team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Hiawatha put the hurt on Holton with a sharp 60-37 win on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Red Hawks' most dominant victory of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Marys was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 64-60 to Silver Lake.

Hiawatha pushed their record up to 7-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points over those games. As for St. Marys, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.

Hiawatha lost to St. Marys at home by a decisive 72-55 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Hiawatha avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
