Baseball Recap: Western International Triumphs

Western International let Grosse Pointe North stack six runs on them in the fourth inning on Saturday but luckily Western International prevailed anyway. The Cowboys came out on top against the Norsemen by a score of 12-7. This was payback for the Cowboys, who suffered a 12-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Alessandro Lopez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Justin Diaz, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Norberick Garcia, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Western International and bumps their season record up to 12-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Grosse Pointe North, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Western International will face off against Grosse Pointe South at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Cowboys surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grosse Pointe North, they will take on L'Anse Creuse North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
