Football Recap: Richland County Starts off Right with Win over Taylorville + How To Watch

Richland County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the Taylorville Tornadoes with a sharp 60-36 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Gavyn Cothern was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 305 yards and five TDs while picking up 17.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 149 yards and one touchdown on only ten passes. Those 305 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Xavier Owusu-Gyan was another key player, rushing for 88 yards and one score.

Richland County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 31-6 victory against Salem on the 5th. As for Taylorville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 41-27 win against Canton on the 5th.
