Softball Recap: River Valley Panthers vs. Derry Trojans

Tuesday just wasn't the day for River Valley's offense. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 7-0 walloping at the hands of the Derry Trojans on Tuesday. River Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Derry apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

For Derry's part, Haylee Myers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. Myers has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Myers was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, a run, and an RBI.

In other batting news, Callie Krause was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Katie Dunlap was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for River Valley and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Derry, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

River Valley will head out on the road to face off against Penns Manor at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. River Valley's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Penns Manor's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Derry, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-4 defeat vs. Mt. Pleasant on the 10th.
