Basketball Game Preview: Harnett Central Trojans vs. E.E. Smith Golden Bulls

Harnett Central is 0-8 against E.E. Smith since January of 2022 but things could change on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Harnett Central Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the E.E. Smith Golden Bulls at 6:00 p.m.

Harnett Central is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Overhills and fell 72-16. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 531st, while the Jaguars are ranked 146th).

Meanwhile, E.E. Smith had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They took down the Eagles 50-33.

E.E. Smith's win came from a few key players Harnett Central will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ka'Lyiah Speller, who posted seven points in addition to ten boards and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alonnie Baldwin - Muldrow, who scored ten points and five steals.

E.E. Smith smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

Harnett Central's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for E.E. Smith, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Harnett Central suffered a grim 47-21 defeat to E.E. Smith in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can Harnett Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
