Softball Recap: Lake Catholic Comes Up Short

Lake Catholic extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-15 in the process. They lost 10-3 to the Magnificat Blue Streaks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Streaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on Saturday.

Olivia Kitchen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

As for Magnificat, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-16. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Magnificat's side, Erin Carney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Roth, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 12 games. Another player making a difference was Cami Riordan, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Lake Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Magnificat, they will take on Hoover at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Blue Streaks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
