Baseball Game Preview: Sylva Bay Academy Saints vs. Laurel Christian Lions

For the first time this season, Sylva Bay Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will venture away from home to face off against the Laurel Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sylva Bay Academy has four straight wins, Laurel Christian has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, everything went Sylva Bay Academy's way against Hattiesburg HomeSchool as Sylva Bay Academy made off with a 13-7 victory.

Tripp Mcgee made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Micah Odom, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Sylva Bay Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Lane Miller was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, Laurel Christian unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 17-0 to Hattiesburg HomeSchool back in February.

Sylva Bay Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 3.33 in the others. As for Laurel Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Everything went Sylva Bay Academy's way against Laurel Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Sylva Bay Academy made off with a 15-0 victory.
