Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Eden Monarchs vs. San Leandro Pirates

For the second straight game, Mt. Eden will face off against San Leandro. The Monarchs will take on the Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mt. Eden took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past San Leandro 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Monarchs have posted since March 29th.

Mateo Romo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Eden saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryan Zamora, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Mt. Eden now has a winning record of 12-11. As for San Leandro, the defeat snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 15-7 record.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mt. Eden has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like San Leandro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts.
