Basketball Recap: Holly Grove Christian Eagles vs. Greenwood Mennonite Flames
Holly Grove Christian lost against Greenwood Mennonite back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Holly Grove Christian Eagles took a 37-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greenwood Mennonite Flames. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Flames 6-2 in the first quarter.
Greenwood Mennonite found their leader in freshman Bobbie Smith, who posted seven points along with ten boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in steals. Carli Welfley was another key player, putting up ten points.
Holly Grove Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Greenwood Mennonite, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Eagles duke it out with the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Greenwood Mennonite, they will square off against Chestertown Christian Academy at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
