Basketball Recap: Thornton Beats Jefferson Academy for Their Seventh Straight Win

Thornton entered their tilt with Jefferson Academy on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came out on top against the Jefferson Academy Jaguars by a score of 66-53.

Thornton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clayton Jones, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 15 boards. Jones' evening made it 19 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Sandovol, who went 7-for-14 en route to 21 points in addition to seven assists and three steals.

Thornton was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson Academy only racked up seven assists.

Jefferson Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Neely, who posted 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Neely has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Ian Quaratino was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Thornton's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for Jefferson Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-4.

Thornton has already played their next match, a 59-50 win against Aurora Central on the 11th. As for Jefferson Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Prospect Ridge Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Prospect Ridge Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
