Baseball Recap: Rio Grande City Triumphs

Rio Grande City got themselves on the board against Juarez-Lincoln on Friday, but Juarez-Lincoln never followed suit. They came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 3-0. The victory continues a trend for the Rattlers in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won seven in a row.

Not much got past Hiram Lopez, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Juarez-Lincoln off the board. Rio Grande City is 2-1 when Lopez posts eight or more strikeouts, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Evan Marroquin was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Rio Grande City hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Juarez-Lincoln struck out 11 times.

The win got Rio Grande City back to even at 9-9. As for Juarez-Lincoln, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16.

Coming up, Rio Grande City will head out to face off against Nixon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rattlers are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Juarez-Lincoln, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Los Fresnos at 6:00 p.m.
