Softball Game Preview: Simi Valley Pioneers vs. Camarillo Scorpions

Simi Valley hasn't had much luck against Camarillo recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Pioneers will venture away from home to take on the Scorpions at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Simi Valley put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. Everything went their way against Oak Park as they made off with a 21-2 victory. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Francesca Hall looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aurora Zepeda, who fired off three home runs, eight RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Those eight RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Hinds, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

Simi Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Camarillo entered their tilt with Royal on Tuesday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They walked away with an 11-8 victory over the Highlanders.

Camarillo's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Simi Valley, their record now sits at 15-7-1.

Simi Valley suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Camarillo in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
