Recap: Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Lakers vs. New Buffalo Bison

The Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Lakers had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 54-53 win over New Buffalo. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Our Lady of the Lake Catholic also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Several Bison players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was M'nason Smothers, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Smothers scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliott Bourne, who scored ten points along with three steals.

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic pushed their record up to 13-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for New Buffalo, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Our Lady of the Lake Catholic will stay at home for another game and welcome Eau Claire at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. New Buffalo will take on Howardsville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully New Buffalo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
