Football Recap: Indian Creek Piles Up the Points Against Speedway

Indian Creek was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Speedway on Friday. The Braves simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Sparkplugs 42-7. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.

Indian Creek found their leader in sophomore Evan Clark, who threw for 119 yards and two TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 43 yards and one score. Alec Burress was in the mix as well, providing the Braves with one touchdown.

Indian Creek didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Speedway to a completion percentage of just 31.6%. The Braves have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.6 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.6 in their last three games.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Indian Creek, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Burress, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Indian Creek pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.4 points on average over those games. As for Speedway, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Indian Creek will challenge Monrovia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Speedway, they will take on Covenant Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
