For the second straight game, Silver Stage will face off against Pershing County. The Nighthawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Silver Stage has now lost 13 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 28.
Pershing County hit Silver Stage with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Nighthawks took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs.
For Pershing County's part, Trenton Rhodes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Rhodes a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ayden Montes was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Colton Diaz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Pershing County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Silver Stage only managed four.
Pershing County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Silver Stage, their loss dropped their record down to 3-20.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Silver Stage has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pershing County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts.
