Softball Recap: Bret Harte Takes a Loss

Bret Harte had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-11 to make it four. They fell just short of the Calaveras Red Hawks by a score of 3-1. The Bullfrogs were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Red Hawks' pitcher proved too tough.

As for Calaveras, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Calaveras' part, Kamryn Thornburg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. Thornburg has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alexa Ortega, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As of now, neither Bret Harte nor Calaveras have any future games scheduled.
