Baseball Recap: Batavia Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Batavia came out on top against New Richmond on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Bulldogs took their match against the Lions 8-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won three games in a row.

Brayden Schmittou made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mason Patrick was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Eads, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Batavia's win bumped their record up to 13-3. As for New Richmond, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

Coming up, Batavia will be playing at home against Northwest at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Richmond, they will venture away from home to face off against Wilmington at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hurricane have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.25 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
