Baseball Game Preview: Garrett Railroaders vs. Leo Lions

Garrett hasn't had much luck against Leo recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Railroaders will venture away from home to challenge the Lions at 10:00 a.m.

Central Noble hit Garrett with a seven-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Railroaders took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. Railroaders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Friday.

Keagan Jobe was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jobe was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season.

Jobe wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Gonya, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that Gonya has scored this season.

Meanwhile, Leo posted their closest victory since April 16th on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Bellmont 5-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Landon Slattery spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Leo pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Garrett, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
