Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Sabino

With a playoff win on the line, Sabino rose to the challenge on Monday. They beat the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 49-44. The win was familiar territory for the Sabercats, who have now won three contests in a row.

It was another big night for Chayil Combs, who went 9-for-14 en route to 23 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024. Jayda Haley was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 14 boards.

Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Noelle Sunukjian and Nicole NJoroge. Sunukjian went 5-for-12 on her way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks, while NJoroge earned 12 points and eight boards. Sunukjian continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Chloe Rogers, who had four points and five steals.

Sabino's victory bumped their record up to 18-10. As for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 19-7.

Looking ahead, Sabino will take on Payson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Payson's defense has only allowed 28.6 points per game this season, so Sabino's offense will have their work cut out for them. Pusch Ridge Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
