Basketball Recap: Pollok Central Drops Highest Score of Season Against Newton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pollok Central). They blew past the Newton Eagles 83-36 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Bulldogs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Pollok Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jake Matthews led the charge by going 8 of 12 en route to 25 points and five steals. Matthews is becoming a predictor of Pollok Central's success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 11-5 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dillan Hatcher, who went 8 of 9 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Pollok Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January.

The win (which was Pollok Central's third in a row) raised their record to 12-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Newton, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pollok Central will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Jefferson at 2:15 p.m. on December 31st. Pollok Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Newton and Hemphill will round out the year against one another at at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
