The Edgewood Mustangs will head out to square off against the West Vigo Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither Edgewood nor Indian Creek made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Mustangs walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Braves.

ALLY BLAND made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on ELLA SPROUL, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was JAYDEN STEPHENS, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Vigo faced Cascade in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Vikings lost 15-5 to the Cadets. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this contest were averaging 3.23 runs allowed.
Briley Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.
Edgewood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for West Vigo, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Edgewood hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like West Vigo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Edgewood came out on top in a nail-biter against West Vigo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
