Football Preview: Wildwood Wildcats vs. Dunnellon Tigers
A feisty cat fight will be fought when Wildcats challenges the Dunnellon Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Two weeks ago, Wildwood got the win against Hardee by a conclusive 28-7. Wildwood pushed the score to 22-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Hardee cut but never quite recovered from.
Wildwood had a senior duo take command as Taylor Keiler threw for 317 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes and Tyrese Keiler picked up 201 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Tyrese's longest reception was for an incredible 79 yards.
Wildwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Devonte' Huff, Louis Brown, and Zephaniah Harris picked up one apiece. Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dunnellon). They blew past North Marion, posting a 42-0 win at home. Considering the Tigers have won three contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dunnellon's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jeffery Vickers, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. Those 101 rushing yards gave Vickers a new career-high. Sean Martin was another key receiver, gaining 66 total yards and two touchdowns.
Dunnellon wouldn't let North Marion keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Jayvyn Fraziars was the leader in that area as all came courtesy of his dominant performance.
Wildwood's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Dunnellon, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
