Brooke Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Cam Lee and Maddie Motley did most of the damage at the plate: Lee scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Motley scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Erin Ruddell also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Central Bucks South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, while Archbishop Wood put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Villa Joseph Marie. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Jems. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Jems: they've now won three in a row.
Not much got past Graciene Gale, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Villa Joseph Marie off the board.
At the plate, Archbishop Wood got a big performance out of Haley Kley, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Kley a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Lilliana Walters, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.
The win got Archbishop Wood back to even at 2-2. As for Central Bucks South, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Archbishop Wood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central Bucks South has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Archbishop Wood, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Central Bucks South's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Central Bucks South took their victory against Archbishop Wood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
