Dilley hasn't had much luck against Hondo recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolves will head out to challenge the Owls at 7:00 p.m. Dilley has given up an average of 7.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Crystal City hit Dilley with a five-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolves came up short against the Javelinas, falling 12-2.
Danica Cano made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Hondo hadn't done well against Cotulla recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Owls narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cowboys 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Owls have posted since February 20th.
Rebecca Rubio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Rubio was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Hondo got a massive performance out of Myia Lathe, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Lathe a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kristyn Ybarra, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Hondo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cotulla only posted a batting average of .188.
Hondo has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Dilley, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dilley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dilley suffered a grim 19-5 defeat to Hondo when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
