Softball Game Preview: South Johnston Trojans vs. Garner Trojans

South Johnston are taking a road trip to face off against Garner at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

South Johnston was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against North Johnston on Tuesday. South Johnston was the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over North Johnston. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Ava Strickland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Strickland was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lannah Price, who scored four runs and stole Four bases. while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Cox, who went 1-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Garner beat Middle Creek 10-6 on Thursday.

Lexi Evans looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, Gaby Mizelle was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Smades, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Garner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in three consecutive games.

Garner's record is now 3-1. As for South Johnston, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
