Basketball Recap: Hueneme Drops Highest Score of Season Against Malibu

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hueneme). They breezed by the Malibu Sharks to the tune of 72-44 on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their 12-game losing streak.

Sebastian Juarez was a one-man wrecking crew for Hueneme as he went 11 for 17 en route to 23 points. That's the most points Juarez has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Eric Lerma, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 15 points along with seven boards and four steals.

Hueneme was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Malibu lost, don't look at Dylan Goosen. Despite the final result, he went 13 for 26 en route to 37 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 84.1% of Malibu's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Hueneme's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 2-19. As for Malibu, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 8-5.

Hueneme won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Channel Islands at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Malibu, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Santa Paula at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
