Baseball Game Preview: Sullivan Redskins vs. Tuscola Warriors

The Sullivan Redskins are taking a road trip to challenge the Tuscola Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sullivan has three straight victories, Tuscola has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Sullivan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 23-1 margin over Blue Ridge on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Redskins with their most commanding win of the season.

Christian Ogle made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Caden Saul was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Zaden Hussong was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Sullivan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Meanwhile, Tuscola lost 15-1 to Shelbyville on Wednesday.

Sullivan pushed their record up to 5-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Tuscola, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.

Everything went Sullivan's way against Tuscola in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Sullivan made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
