High school basketball standout Mikey Williams arrested on five counts of assault with a deadly weapon

Memphis commit is one of the game's most recognizable faces with dazzling on-court skills along with huge social media following.

Mikey Williams, one of the biggest names in high school basketball, was arrested Thursday in San Diego County on five felony counts of suspicion of assault with a firearm.

The star at San Ysidro (San Diego) opened eyes on the national high school basketball scene as a freshman when he scored 77 in a game on his way to averaging nearly 30 points per game. He left San Ysidro after his freshman year to join Lake Norman Christian in North Carolina before rejoining the Cougars for his senior season.

Williams has name, image and likeness deals estimated at over $3 million, including a shoe deal with Puma. His Instagram account, which has 3.8 million followers, was deactivated following his arrest. His Tiktok videos have generated more than 300 million views.

Regarded as a top 30 prospect in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports, Williams was expected to continue his career next season at Memphis playing under head coach Penny Hardaway.

The university issued a statement Friday morning, saying: "We are aware of the situation and are gathering more information."

Following his Thursday arrest, he was released on $50,000 bail and is expected to appear in court on April 20.
