Baseball Recap: Woodland Regional Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Woodland Regional won the last time they faced Seymour and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Hawks walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Wildcats.

Charlie Napoleone tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Erik Pulkkinen was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Woodland Regional's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 11-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brett Lato, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Woodland Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Woodland Regional is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Seymour, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.

As of now, neither Woodland Regional nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
