Basketball Recap: Independence Wildcats vs. Coahoma County Red Panthers
The Independence Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. The contest between them and Coahoma County wasn't particularly close, with Independence falling 61-42. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Red Panthers are ranked 27th).
Leading Coahoma County to victory were Harlem Bell and Caleb Hearns. Bell scored 18 points along with four steals, while Hearns dropped a double-double on 14 points and 19 rebounds. Hearns hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerasmus Eagins, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Independence dropped their record down to 10-11 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Coahoma County, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 22-5.
Independence will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Coahoma County, they and the Hawks will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
