Baseball Recap: Head-Royce Drops Highest Score of Season Against Athenian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Head-Royce). They put the hurt on the Athenian Owls with a sharp 14-2 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Jayhawks in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won six in a row.

Ezra Goldfarb made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Head-Royce got a massive performance out of Mateo Gonzalez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Kaden Choi was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Head-Royce's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Athenian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9.
