Softball Recap: Kolbee Osborne's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Piedmont Academy over Athens Christian

Piedmont Academy had lost nine straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-17 to make it ten. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 19-2 to the Athens Christian Eagles, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 back in August.

Piedmont Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kolbee Osborne, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was Osborne's first of the season.

As for Athens Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

On Athens Christian's side, Ellianna Christian made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Christian was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Harper Westbrook was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Riley Ossick was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Piedmont Academy will face off against First Presbyterian Day at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for Athens Christian, they will challenge Gatewood at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
