Softball Recap: Wittenberg-Birnamwood Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Wittenberg-Birnamwood was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Shiocton on Thursday. The Chargers never let the Chiefs get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Ella Eichman, who gave up just four hits to keep Shiocton off the board.

At the plate, Rory Salvesen was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Olivia Bessette also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-5. As for Shiocton, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wittenberg-Birnamwood will venture away from home to challenge Amherst at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last eight games the Falcons have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Shiocton, they will head out to face off against Oconto at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.5 runs per game on average), something the Chiefs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
