Basketball Recap: Chapel Hill Falls Despite Big Games from Malia Haney and Cameron Terry

Chapel Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the East Coweta Indians. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2018.

Chapel Hill's loss came despite strong showings from Cameron Terry and Malia Haney. Terry posted 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals, while Haney earned 13 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Terry a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kendall Copeland, who had seven points.

Even though they lost, Chapel Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Leading East Coweta to victory were Kezoriyah Blackshear and Ariana Simmons. Blackshear went 7 for 9 en route to 18 points and three steals, while Simmons put up 14 points along with seven boards and seven steals. Rihanna Reams was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Chapel Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for East Coweta, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-8.

Chapel Hill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-35 victory against Douglas County on the 17th. As for East Coweta, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-55 win against Trinity Christian on the 16th.
