Mills is 2-8 against Half Moon Bay since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mills Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Half Moon Bay Cougars at 4:00 p.m. This will be Mills' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
Having struggled with 11 defeats in a row dating back to last season, Mills turned things around against South San Francisco on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 8-5. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Givanni Angelini, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double. Those RBI were his first of the season. Kendrick Choi was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
Mills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Half Moon Bay hadn't done well against Carlmont recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Half Moon Bay walked away with a 5-2 victory over Carlmont.
Kai Kung spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Half Moon Bay is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Riley Jackson was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.
Half Moon Bay's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Mills, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Mills skirted past Half Moon Bay 2-1 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Does Mills have another victory up their sleeve, or will Half Moon Bay turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
