After flying high against Arcadia last Friday, St. Mary came back down to earth. The St. Mary's Knights lost 59-35 to the Mingus Marauders on Monday. The Knights' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Defeat or not, St. Mary's got some senior leadership from Gwen Carter and Ava Sierras. Carter posted 23 points, while Sierras had ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 65.7% of St. Mary's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Mingus' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianka Villalobos led the charge by going 7 of 13 en route to 15 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alice Kinsey, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds.

St. Mary's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Mingus, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

St. Mary's didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 104-20 defeat against Mesquite on the 15th. Mingus has also already played their next contest, a 61-42 win against Bradshaw Mountain on the 16th.
